Most of the roads in Jeeva Nagar and Sankar Nagar in Avadi are just mud and water tracks. Many of them are unmotorable. And when rainwater mixes with sewage, residents cannot even walk on them.
Jeeva Nagar and Sankar Nagar are just a few metres from the Avadi Municipality office.
While the main thoroughfares are paved with concrete, the side streets are in a woeful state.
Left in the lurch
S. Ramesh, a resident of Jeeva Nagar, said neither the municipal authorities nor the elected representatives have bothered to visit the streets or taken steps to fill the roads with construction debris.
Adding to the woes of residents is the draining of waste water from a few houses into the incomplete sewage network, resulting in several manholes overflowing with sewage, posing a health hazard to the residents of Jeeva Nagar and Sankar Nagar.
T. Mohammed, a resident of Sankar Nagar, said several residents in their locality had illegally connected their drainage to the sewage network and the municipal authorities remain blind to this problem.
