Wunderbar Films, which is producing actor Rajinikanth’s next film to be directed by Pa. Ranjith, issued a statement on Sunday, clarifying that the movie is not based on the life of Haji Masthan.
The movie, which is yet to be named, is for now being called ‘Production No. 12’. Earlier this year, actor Dhanush, who runs Wunderbar, generated a lot of buzz when he announced that he would be bankrolling a film starring his father-in-law Rajinikanth and directed by Pa. Ranjith, who had earlier helmed Kabali .
Based on news reports that said that the upcoming film would be based on the life of Haji Masthan, his foster son Sundar Shekar Mishra sent a notice to Rajinikanth a few days ago.
In the notice, Mr. Sundar said that he had heard that the actor was planning to portray Haji Masthan as an underworld don and smuggler, which was highly unacceptable. He further said that he would provide authentic information about him if necessary and that there should be no misinterpretation on screen which could tarnish the image of Masthan, who, he said, had been a political leader.
An official statement from the production house said the film is in no way based on the life of Masthan. “It is a film set in Mumbai and is a fictional story which is not based on any real people or events,” the statement said.
