Over 100 employees of a U.S.-based firm in Oragadam were detained after they staged a protest in front of the U.S. Consulate on Anna Salai on Tuesday.
According to police, the employees of Sanmina SCI Private Limited India, urged the State government to take over the company and to settle pay arrears and other work related issues.
The protesters claimed that the company, started in 2007, had assured to employ 1,325 people and then increase it to 4,000 once the company starts functioning fully. However, they claimed that as of now only 400 contract and 400 permanent employees were working in the company.
The police detained them at a stadium in Egmore and released them in the evening.
