In a bid to sort out parking problems on Rajiv Gandhi Salai, the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) recently called for consultancy services for a feasibility study and preparation of a detailed feasibility report for construction of the parking facility that will have space for 2,000 cars and 50 buses.
Instead of constructing just a multi-level car parking lot, TNRDC is looking to set up a rooftop restaurant, a children’s park and a drive-in restaurant as part of the proposed facility in Siruseri.
According to sources, the restaurants and children’s play area will attract families and help bring additional revenue.
“The stretch does not have much in terms of entertainment. Shuttle services could be operated to IT companies if their employees’ cars are parked here,” said an official.
The parking facility has to be automatic with robotic control and constructed under a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis. The estimated cost of the facility that is to come up on five acres of land will be around Rs. 200 crore, said the official.
“We want a modern, aesthetic looking and functional facility that will enable parking and getting the car out in minimal time,” said the official.
The last date for purchase of request for proposal document for the project is June 19. The reports are to be submitted within six months and the consultant will be paid Rs. 1 crore for their services.
