While the city as a whole has escaped from major power cuts this summer, there is a growing number of complaints of power failures in various pockets of the city.
T. Sadagopan, a resident of Pattabhiram, said residents in the locality have been battling power problems — which began due to a technical fault in the sub-station — for the past week. The power cuts have been ranging between three to four hours daily with the local officials unable to find a permanent solution, he added.
Call centre complaints
Officials of TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) claim that the number of complaints to the fuse off call centres and computerised call centre (1912) have come down. However, residents in various parts of the city, including Adyar, Sowcarpet, Seven Wells, and Kondithope, said that they have made several complaints and power supply restoration has been slow.
K.V. Krishnaswamy, a resident of Kondithope, in a complaint to senior officials through email raised the issue of frequent power failures in the area, especially at night. In his complaint, he rued the poor response from local officials.
A senior official of TANGEDCO said that instructions have been issued to look at individual complaints, and provide solutions promptly.
The official also stressed that call records of complaints received at FOCs were being routinely checked by senior officials.
