April 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

A police team used a car’s Global Positioning System (GPS) device to track down the vehicle within a few hours after it was stolen.

A four-member gang intercepted the driver of the car belonging to a travel agency near Tirusulam railway station early on Thursday.

K. Kumar, the driver and the owner of the car, was waylaid near a cinema hall before being forced to get out of the vehicle.

He immediately informed the city police and they began tracking down the car using the GPS instrument that was fitted in it.

The stolen car was heading towards the Secretariat when it was intercepted by a team of policemen from the Anna Square station, police said.

S. Sureshrajan (37) of Tiruchi was arrested in connection with the case, while three others managed to flee, police said.

He was handed over to Pallavaram police for interrogation.

The suspect was a history-sheeter with other cases registered against him, police added.
