Director-General of Police Bholanath on Thursday said instructions were given to all police officers in the State to act impartially and effectively to ensure that the Assembly elections are held in a free and fair manner.
“Any deviation will be enquired into and appropriate action taken. We suspended an Inspector of Police in Tiruvannamalai district and a Deputy Superintendent of Police was transferred out…there will be no mercy to wrongdoers. We want to make sure that there is 100 per cent impartiality and professionalism on the part of the police,” he told reporters here.
Mr. Bholanath said adequate manpower would be deployed at all the 54,016 polling stations. There is no sensitive polling booth as such. “All booths will be given equal and adequate protection. Mobile parties comprising Central Paramilitary forces will cover every 3 or 4 polling stations,” he said.
