PMK shadow budget proposes 10 per cent cut in power charges

The Pattali Makkal Katchi on Sunday unveiled a draft shadow budget ahead of the State budget session scheduled to begin on July 21.

The PMK’s shadow budget, an annual feature, proposes a 10 per cent reduction in electricity charges. “Also, by changing the billing cycle to a monthly one from the current bi-monthly cycle, EB charges will come down by 25 per cent,” the proposal said. Unveiling the shadow budget at a press conference, PMK founder S. Ramadoss proposed addition of 6,220 MW of electricity in the next three years and a total of 17,340 MW in the next five years. He proposed to set up the office of the Lok Ayukta with the Chief Minister, Ministers and officials brought under its ambit. The party set a 12-point agenda to tackle corruption and completion of corruption cases in six months. Dr. Ramadoss said to tackle crimes against women, a separate wing of the State police with a woman IPS officer heading it was needed.

To increase and attract investments in Tamil Nadu, the PMK leader proposed that clearances should be given in three weeks through a single window system and creation of a special cell in the Chief Minister’s office to fast track investment proposals worth more than Rs. 100 crore.

He proposed enforcing total prohibition in the State on August 15. Some of the other proposals include setting up of a medical college, a law college and agricultural college in each district, making Madras University and Anna University as Centres of Excellence. The shadow budget also proposed that the State will make efforts to set up a unit of Harvard University in Chennai. The shadow budget also proposed providing farm loans without any hassles.
