Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan, PMK leader Dr. Ramadoss and DMK working president M.K. Stalin have welcomed the Supreme Court order directing the Tamil Nadu government to set up a Lokayukta in the State.

“Honest citizens of T.N. welcome the Supreme court’s order. This government should follow the order without delay. People should insist on it. The Lokayukta will be the cure for the rampant disease called corruption,” Mr. Haasan said in his tweet.

PMK founder Dr. Ramadoss said that the State government must reform and set up a Lokayukta after the Supreme Court’s latest order.

“The Supreme Court has directed Tamil Nadu to set up a Lokayukta and has asked to file its progress report before July 10. I welcome this. The Supreme Court has also said that the reasons given by Tamil Nadu for not setting up a Lokayukta are not acceptable,” Mr. Ramadoss said.

Reacting to the Supreme Court’s order, Mr. Stalin said the government had not constituted the Lokayukta since it was afraid of its corrupt administration.

“I have raised the issue many times in the Assembly. I applaud the Supreme Court for chiding the Tamil Nadu government. At least now, it should implement the court direction,” he said.
