The Chennai Corporation will develop a park with modern facilities on a prime land spread over 14.5 grounds off Anna Salai in Guindy.
Inspecting the work on levelling the land on Saturday, Mayor M.Subramanian said, “The park will be developed at a cost of Rs.70 lakh on an OSR (Open Space Reservation) land, handed over to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority by ITC Ltd as part of the requirements under the Development Control Rules.”
The Corporation has taken over the OSR land for which a gift deed was executed in favour of the CMDA after it issued the planning permission for the hotel project of the company.
As the park is to be located in an area which served as one of the gateways to the city, the civic body was taking efforts to make it one of the best such facilities, Mr.Subramanian added.
The facilities would include a musical fountain, similar to the one to be commissioned at a park being developed near Perambur flyover. The Corporation would take efforts to gain possession of other OSR lands at various localities, he said.
The civic body retrieved over Rs.3,000 crore worth of land in the past four years, Mr.Subramanian said. This included lands worth Rs.600 crore in Madambakkam, Rs.200 crore in Koyambedu, Rs.200 crore in Shenoy Nagar and Rs.200 crore on Poonamallee High Road near Victoria Public Hall.
