Police on Tuesday arrested three persons in connection with the murder of Sriperumpudur panchayat union ward member, P.P.G. Kumaran. Mr. Kumaran, of Pillaipakkam, was hacked to death on Monday morning.
Police said Praveen Kumar of Jaihindpuram, Madurai, was first arrested, and on interrogation, he reportedly confessed that he was part of a 10-member gang who attacked the ward member and his two friends.

The gang dragged him out of his vehicle, attacked him and fled the scene.
Kumaran died later at a private hospital. Two of Kumaran’s friends, Madhizhagan and Sankar, who were with him, also sustained injuries .
