Over 800 petitions received at grievance programme

November 14, 2010 12:59 am | Updated 12:59 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Chennai Corporation's ‘12th Makkalai Thedi Maanagaratchi' programme on Saturday saw redressal of 411 grievances pertaining to civic issues.

A total of 814 petitions were received by various departments of the civic body. Officials of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and Metro Water were among those present.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor M.Subramanian said spot redressal of grievances at the Makkalai Thedi Maanagaratchi programme was one of the reasons for the increasing number of petitions.

Action had been taken and all civic problems solved for over 75 per cent of the petitions received so far. The remaining petitions pertained to request for houses and employment. So, those petitions had been forwarded the appropriate authorities, said Mr.Subramanian.

Union Minister for Textiles Dayanidhi Maran said the request for employment to the civic body would be forwarded to the appropriate private sector entities for providing employment to the petitioners concerned.

Minister for Information Parithi Illamvazhuthi urged the civic body to conduct more such programmes in the city.
