Visitors to the Khadi Board showroom in Kuralagam can now avail of traditional therapies like mud bath and spine bath.
A naturopathy centre has been set up in the showroom by the Khadi and Village Industries Board at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh.
The centre will be run by the Board and employ a doctor and two therapists — a male and a female — from the Government Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College in Arumbakkam.
The centre will offer therapies like mud bath, steam bath and spine bath initially. A steam chamber and facilities for mud therapy and spine bath have been installed. Facilities for oil massage have also been provided. The products for the therapies will be sourced from the Board’s suppliers.
Each therapy will last around 15 to 30 minutes. The clients will also be provided diet charts and taught yoga to maintain their health. The therapy will help those with problems such as obesity, diabetes, back and knee pain, said J.K. Ezra, who is in charge of the centre.
“Khadi Board aims to bring to people simple products from the villages. The centre will provide employment to five persons, including maintenance staff, and will be a source of revenue for the Board,” said U. Sagayam, chief executive officer of the Board.
The centre was inaugurated on Thursday by khadi and village industries minister T.P. Poonachi.
