The narrow triangular junction below the flyover on Poonamallee High Road (near Thiruverukadu and Poonamallee ) puts pedestrians at risk for accidents as there is little traffic regulation there.

On the stretch between Thiruverukadu and Sennir Kuppam in Poonamallee, this junction is the only spot where pedestrians are allowed to cross the stretch. However, the signal is non functioning for a many months now. there are no speed breakers, reflectors and signboards there. Traffic police personnel have not been deployed there either.

A stop meant for Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses is located close to the junction, adding to the chaos.

Motorists from Thiruverukadu and Vanagaram take a left turn at the narrow junction to reach Porur, Mangadu and Poonamallee via the Link Road that connects Thiruverukadu and Poonamallee, thereby adding to the congestion.

“The intersection also lacks street lamps. Poor illumination gives an added dimension to the danger of crossing the junction,” says K. Sivakumar, a resident from Poonamallee.

Besides MTC buses, lorries also pass through the junction. Also, many multi-storey residential complexes are located along Link Road near the junction.

Further, the bitumen on the road has worn off in the recent rains.

“The junction will be well-lit soon and a zebra-crossing will be laid,” says a State Highways official.
