For an accident-free New Year’s, the city traffic police have announced a slew of traffic arrangements for December 31.
The traffic police will conduct intensive vehicle checks at various places to prevent drunken driving and rash driving as well as to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles. Parking spots have also been earmarked. Besides, the following diversions will be made.
Kamarajar Salai & Rajaji Salai
All Foreshore Road entries will be barricaded on December 31 from 8 p.m. onwards, to prevent the entry of vehicles on to the Beach-Foreshore Road. Vehicles on Foreshore Road will be allowed to exit via Kamarajar Salai only up to 8 p.m.
Vehicles will not be allowed on Kamrajar Salai from Gandhi Statue up to the War Memorial from 8 p.m. on December 31 until 2 a.m. The approach roads towards Kamarajar Salai, Lloyd’s Road, Besant Road, Ayodhi Nagar, Sunguvar Street, Bharathi Salai, Wallajah Road and Swami Sivanandha Salai junction will be barricaded completely to prevent vehicles entering on to Kamarajar Salai from 8 p.m. onwards.
Vehicles will not be allowed from Wallajah point and RBI North subway towards War Memorial from 8 p.m. and will be diverted towards NSC Bose Road to reach EVR Salai and Anna Salai. Vehicles from R.K Salai, Wallajah Road, Bharathi Salai, Lloyd’s Road, Dr. Besant Road, Adams Road, Flagstaff Road and War Memorial will not be allowed towards Kamarajar Salai from 8 p.m.
Commuters can park their vehicles in parking slots earmarked by the police.
Vehicles coming from Adyar towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Karaneeswarer Koil Street-Santhome High Road junction towards Karaneeswarer Koil junction to take the route via Natesan Road, Ice House junction, Triplicane High Road and Wallajah Road to reach Anna Salai.
Vehicles from the north intending to go towards Adyar will be diverted from RBI North from 8 p.m. towards NSC Bose Road, EVR Salai, Anna Salai, Wellington, GP Road, Royapettah High Road, Luz junction and RK Mutt Road to reach their destination. No vehicles will be permitted to exit and enter Kamarajar Salai from Foreshore Road.
Elliot’s Beach
On Elliot’s Beach, vehicles will not be allowed after 8 p.m. on December 31 on to Elliot’s Beach 6th Avenue until 2 a.m. on January 1.
Sixth Avenue will be blocked at the 5th Avenue junction, 4th Main Road junction, 3rd Main Road junction and 16th Cross Street junction. Vehicles will also not be allowed from 7th Avenue MG Road junction.
