New DGP for poll work

All field officers handling election related work will report to K.P.Maghendran

The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday posted senior police officer K.P. Maghendran as the Director-General of Police (training) as the DGP (Elections).

An official release by K. Gnanadesikan, Chief Secretary to government, said Mr. Maghendran who was the DGP (training), Chennai, is transferred and entrusted with all election related works involving police. He shall not report to the DGP. All field officers in Tamil Nadu handling any election related work shall report only to Mr. Maghendran till the completion of election process in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, terming the posting as an eye wash, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner that the present DGP, Ashok Kumar, still continues to command the police force and officers who are in-charge of the Tamil Nadu elections. Mr. Vaiko also claimed that Mr. Ashok Kumar had asked three State intelligence officers to tap the phones of Opposition leaders.

Stating that it is impossible to conduct the elections in a fair manner with Mr. Ashok Kumar heading the force, Mr. Vaiko said that on behalf of the People’s Welfare Front, he wanted the DGP to be changed and a new person to be appointed.

IPS officers transferred

Apart from this Karan Singha, Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP), crime branch CID, has been transferred and posted as ADGP Intelligence. R. Sudhakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ambattur, has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur district, in the place of N. M. Mylvahanan who is transferred.

Rupesh Kumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar, has been transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Erode, in the place of M.R. Sibi Chakravarthy.

IAS transfers

Apart from police, some changes in the IAS cadre have also been announced. Under Rule 4 (2) of the IAS (cadre) Rules, 1954, temporary posts of Senior Collector, Karur district, and Pudukottai district have been created for a period of one year or till the need for them cease whichever is earlier, said an official order from the State government.

Kakarla Usha, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Ltd., is transferred and posted as Senior Collector, Karur, in the place of T.P. Rajesh. T. N. Venkatesh, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Handloom Weaver Co-operative Society, has replaced Tiruvarur Collector M. Mathivanan.

Pooja Kulkarni, State project director, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, is posted as Tiruvannamalai Collector replacing A. Gnanasekaran. C. Samayamoorthy, Director of Employment and Training, is transferred and posted as Collector, Tirunelveli district, in the place of M. Karunakaran.

S. Swarna, Chairperson and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, is transferred and posted as Senior Collector, Pudukottai district, in the place of S. Ganesh.
