P. Saravanan has taken over as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police Triplicane. He succeeds S. Baskar, who has joined as DC, Headquarters, Madurai. Mr. Saravanan hails from the district of Theni with a qualification of B.E. (Agriculture).

He joined service in 2001 as DSP and has served in places such as Sivakasi, Vellore and Dharmapuri. He was honoured with the Uthamar Gandhi Medal in 2011.

As the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Saravanan will have control over 10 police stations such as Triplicane, Anna Salai, Chindadripet, Zambazzar, Anna Square and Egmore. About his plans for efficient governance of Triplicane, Mr. Saravanan says, “The beat officers of the area will be made familiar with the public. This will enable them to approach the police personnel whenever they encounter a problem. Elderly people will be given special attention.”

As regards to the schools and colleges students, Mr. Saravanan says, “Students should know that if they get involved in criminal cases they would face a bleak future. For instance, they will find it difficult even to obtain a passport for their higher education. When there is a problem, be it civic or criminal, students should boldly approach the police personnel.”

He is of the view that crimes such as shop lifting and other petty ones can be averted if shops, banks, marriage halls and malls install CCTV in their premises. In some places such as Express Avenue, Prince Plaza and Ispahani Centre, CCTV has been already installed. He plans to hold meetings with the business fraternity to appraise them about the importance of installing CCTV in their working area.

For any grievance, public can reach Mr. Saravanan at F1 Chindadripet Police Station, Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Triplicane. Ph: 94430 43687.
