The ongoing railway line work between Namakkal and Salem is expected to be completed this year, according to Deepak Krishan, Southern Railway General Manager.
Chairing the 119th edition of the Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee Meeting of Southern Railway recently, Mr. Krishan said the proposal for the Nagapattinam-Velankanni line was awaiting the approval of the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
He said that Southern Railway accorded priority to cleanliness on station premises, trains and track.
It had entered into a contract with agencies to collect garbage apart from piloting concepts of onboard housekeeping and clean stations. On the passenger security front, the Railways had installed surveillance, CCTV cameras and X-ray luggage scanners at major stations and was implementing the integrated security system.
MLAs Anathalavattam Anandan and T. Thyagarajan, senior officials of State governments, IGs (Railway Police) of Southern States, and representatives of Chambers of Commerce, Passenger Associations and Consumer Organisation attended the meeting.
