Mylapore club’s art fest kicks off

The 62 art festival of the Mylapore Fine Arts Club (MFAC) was inaugurated on Sunday with mridangam artist Guruvayur Dorai being conferred the title ‘Sangeetha Kala Nipuna’ and Bharatanatyam dancer Alarmel Valli the title ‘Nrithya Kala Nipuna’.

Former chief election commissioner, N. Gopalaswami, who inaugurated the fest, said the MFAC was a boon to the residents of Mylpore. He commended Mr. Dorai and Ms. Alarmel Valli for their services to art.

MFAC president Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, said this year’s music programmes and awards were presented by P. Vijayakumar Reddy and Preetha Reddy in memory of P. Obul Reddy and P. Gnanambal. Mridangam maestro, T. V. Gopalakrishnan felicitated the award winners and said that most artistes considered it a pleasure to perform at the MFAC and even more pleasurable to get awards from the prestigious institution.

Prizes were also presented to winners of various competitions on the occasion.
