The high-security convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi came to a stop minutes after rolling out of the convocation auditorium on the SRM University campus here on Sunday.
Even as curious onlookers, including senior police officials, wondered why the VVIP convoy had halted, Mr. Modi had actually spared time to listen to a poem penned by a student.
Prapatti Singh, a final-year student of the university, wrote a poem on leadership qualities and wanted to present it to Mr. Modi as she thought he had most of them.
Despite the scorching sun, he gave a patient hearing as Ms. Singh read out the full poem in Hindi. Impressed by the creative thoughts of the girl, he asked her to send him the content.
“I sent the poem by email and got an acknowledgement from his secretary. It is a dream come true for me. He was kind and generous…it was so motivating. Mr. Modi told me that he was doing his best for the development of the youth and the nation,” Ms. Singh told The Hindu .
The poem has no direct reference to Mr. Modi but elaborates the good qualities people expect from a leader. “I have seen him on the TV many times. He has so many plans for the growth of India. Though I made a request to his Personal Assistant that I would like to dedicate the poem to Mr. Modi, I never thought the convoy would stop for me,” a visibly elated Ms. Singh said.
