A minor fire broke out on the fourth floor of Kumaran Hospital on Poonamallee High Road around 7.45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Since smoke started billowing out of a window, panic prevailed in and around the hospital for a short while. But hospital authorities shut down power supply to room number 405 and 406, and the situation was brought under control within minutes. Though fire service personnel were alerted as per the emergency procedure code, their services were not availed, the hospital authorities said.
Vehicles catch fire
A car and two motorcycles parked on Second Street, Vasanthan Colony, Thirumangalam, caught fire in the early hours of Tuesday.
The owner of the vehicles, K.Janaki Raman (65), was alerted by neighbours around 2.30 a.m.
The fire was put out a short while later. The Thirumangalam police have registered a case.
Huts gutted
About 80 huts were destroyed in a fire that broke out in Kakkanji Nagar at ICF on Monday night.
Five fire tenders were rushed from nearby stations, including Kilpauk, Villivakkam and J.J. Nagar. It took about two hours to put out the fire. Nobody was injured.
The cause of fire is under investigation.
