The micro plan for conservancy operations in 88 sq km of three privatised zones in the city is all set to change shortly. The micro plan includes the detailed plan of action at the street level for collection, segregation and transportation of municipal solid waste in three zones of Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar. The plan also covers the time of commencement of conservancy operations on a street, conservancy workers and equipment involved. After an inspection of the areas for the past two days, three teams headed by IAS officials have found that the “approved micro plan for conservancy in the privatised areas is flawed.”
Chennai Corporation Commissioner D.Karthikeyan said the civic body will issue notice to Ramky Enviro Engineers to amend the micro plan in the three zones on Monday.
The micro plan was approved by the corporation a few weeks after the contract for private conservancy operations in the three zones came into force on January1.
The private conservancy operator is likely to submit its revised micro plan of action to the civic body after another study.
A detailed plan of action, including the identification of areas where conservancy operation has to be strengthened at night, will also be chalked out by the civic body and the private conservancy operator, sources in the Corporation said.
Important recommendations of the officials who inspected the three zones include the reduction in the number of houses covered by a tricycle. One tricycle covers around 500 houses now. But the civic body is likely to ask the private conservancy contractor to increase the number of tricycles and reduce the number of houses covered by a tricycle to at least 300. The distance of road covered by a sweeper employed will also be reduced to 500 metre per day.
Now the distance covered by a worker ranges from 650 to 750 metre a day in many localities. The civic body also employs more than 11,150 conservancy workers.
Ramky Enviro Engineers replaced Neel Metal Fanalca, whose term came to an end on December 31, 2011.
