In a significant step towards the opening of the second underground stretch of Chennai Metro Rail between Saidapet and AG-DMS, a trial run with a locomotive was carried out.

According to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the trial on the 4-km stretch was done on the downward track line.

Work is continuing on the upward track too. Following this, trial runs with actual trains will begin.

That trials will be integrated with other systems after signalling and electrification work is complete on this stretch.

When the stretch is operational by the end of the year, it will connect Saidapet and Chennai airport.
