July 02, 2014 10:09 am | Updated 10:09 am IST - CHENNAI:

A 30-year-man was hacked to death by a duo in public view, in a densely populated area near the regional transport office in Tambaram, on Tuesday morning. The police suspect a personal motive behind the killing. No arrests have been made so far.

The Tambaram police identified the victim as Ayyanar, a lorry mechanic working in a shed on Kishkinta Road and a resident of Ottavadai Street in West Tambaram. The attack took place around 9.30 a.m., when Ayyanar was riding his two-wheeler to work.

When he was near the RTO, two men on a motorcycle intercepted him and attempted to attack him with sickles. Ayyanar fell off his vehicle and started to flee, but the duo chased him and hit him on the head, killing him. The assailants immediately fled on their two-wheeler, the police said.
