The ICSE class X examinations began on Wednesday with the mathematics paper.

Anxious students were relieved that the two-and-a-half-hour paper which began at 11 a.m., was “much easier than expected”.

Deivanai Vellayappan, principal, Chettinad Hari Shri Vidyashram, said that 22 students took the exam at their school. “The maths teachers told us that the paper was easy, and the examination went off without any hassles,” she added.

G. Niveditha, a class X student said that the students had expected it to be very tough because maths and history were relatively heavy subjects, but that the paper had turned out to be easy.

M. Janani, another student, said that she was anxious because this was her first attempt at writing a board exam.

“I was very nervous before I entered the exam hall, but it was much easier than we thought,” she said, adding that the paper was for 80 marks, with 20 marks allocated for an internal assessment.

The last examination will be economics on March 25.
