A drunken brawl among friends ended in one of them having three of his fingers severed on Friday night.
Swift action by the police in transporting the digits to a government hospital helped doctors to successfully reattach them.
Sources with the TP Chatram police said the incident occured around 10.30 p.m. on Friday near the home of the victim, Velu alias ‘Poochi’ Velu (38), a resident of Jyotiammal Nagar 11th Cross Street in TP Chatram. Velu got into an argument with his friends Karikalan and Sankar, also from the same area.
The duo attacked Velu and one of them drew a knife that he was carrying and attacked Velu on his head and left hand, severing three of his fingers. The duo then fled.
A police patrol team arrived at the spot shortly after and shifted Velu to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (GH). Two officers quickly retrieved the fingers from near the crime spot, packed and rushed them to GH. Following surgeries performed to reattach the fingers, Velu was said to be out of danger.
A TB Chatram police team has launched a hunt for the suspects Karikalan and Sankar, the sources said.
