A 28-year-old man who was stabbed by his father on Neelam Basha Dargah Street in Triplicane on Saturday night died in hospital.

According to the police, Dasthagir was a daily wage labourer who made jewellery boxes. He lived in a one-room shanty with his father, Fakruddin (62), and mother. Fakruddin is also a daily wage labourer.

On Friday night, around 10 p.m, the men were reportedly drunk and got into a heated argument, following which Dasthagir left the house.

When he returned in the night, his father did not let him inside and threatened to stab him if he entered the house.

When Dasthagir tried to enter the house, an enraged Fakruddin stabbed him on the chest, police said.

A crowd gathered there even as Fakruddin escaped.

Dasthagir was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital and later referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

At 2.30 a.m, he succumbed to his injuries, the police said.

Neighbours claimed the two men would often get into fights, usually over money.

The Marina police are on the lookout for Fakruddin.
