The Central Crime Branch of the city police arrested a 50-year-old man after he went on the run for five years following his involvement in a land fraud and cheating case.

Police sources said Loganathan, a native of Karur, who was a resident of Chennai in 2007, had approached owners of properties under dispute. Some of them were in dispute due to cases pending in courts and others, due to property division among family members. He promised to sell the property for a good price and collected large sums of money from more than 10 owners for such deals.

However, Loganathan failed to keep his word and evaded the victims. Following this, one of the affected owners lodged a compliant with the office of the Commissioner of Police here. The complaint was transferred to the CCB who then probed the matter and decided to arrest Loganathan.

However, he gave police teams the slip and was absconding for the following five years.

Following specific input that Loganathan was in the city on Saturday, a police team tracked him down and arrested him.
