A 32-year-old man died in the hospital due to ill-health after he was escorted by the police as he created a ruckus on the road near Ekattuthangal here on Monday.
He was found regulating traffic near Ekattuthangal and suddenly threw a stone at a vehicle. Passersby and motorists alerted the control room and the traffic police made him sit on the side of road.
Mentally unstable
On receiving information, the Guindy police rushed to the spot. Sources said the man was found mentally disoriented.
He could not even identify himself. Later, he fell unconscious on the spot.
Police rushed him to the ESI Hospital in K.K. Nagar, but he died. His body was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for a post-mortem.
He died due to ill-health, the preliminary medical report said.
Later, he was identified as Jayaganesh, 32, of Choolaimedu.
Television crew who went to the hospital to cover the death had to face hostile relatives and family members of the deceased, who were angry that Jayaganesh’s death had been portrayed as due to custodial torture whereas he died due to ill health.
