The three-month old puppy, whose ears were chopped off by a drunken man in R.A. Puram on Sunday, succumbed to injuries on Tuesday evening.
G. Krishnamurthy, the autorickshaw driver who rescued and took the puppy to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) centre in Vepery, said he and other drivers had gone to the police station, leaving the puppy in the house of one of them. While they were there, they received a message that she had died around 6.30 p.m.
Earlier in the day, the drivers had taken the puppy to the veterinary hospital, where her wounds were cleaned up. The vets advised the drivers to give the puppy only cold water. “She could not even get up and walk,” Mr. Krishnamurthy said.
The puppy had been attacked on Sunday by one Kumar of R.A. Puram when the drivers were not at the autorickshaw stand. Kumar allegedly lured the puppy home with biscuits and chopped off her ears. The incident came to light on Monday.
