Madras university gets new registrar

March 07, 2014 02:05 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 06:51 am IST - CHENNAI:

Professor P. David Jawahar of Bharathidasan Institute of Management has been appointed as the Registrar of the University of Madras.

The interviews for the registrar’s post were conducted a month ago and Prof. Jawahar was chosen, sources said.

The decision has been approved by the syndicate too. Prof. Jawahar, who has a Ph.D in organisational behaviour from the University of Madras, would assume charge soon, the sources added.

According to sources, former registrar of the University, Leo T. Alexander, had resigned in May 2012, after his name was included in the list of officials responsible for malpractices in BE exams.

After that, Koteeswara Prasad, former head of the university’s department of politics and public administration, was made the registrar-in-charge.

University officials said they had conducted interviews for the registrar’s post last year, but none of the nearly 20 candidates who had applied for the position were found suitable.
