Impressed by the progress of the on-going Metro Rail work in Chennai, planning commission members of Madhya Pradesh said they may wish to replicate the work in their state too.
On Thursday, vice-chairman Babulal Jain and advisors of the Madhya Pradesh State Planning Commission visited the Koyambedu Metro Rail site, where construction of one of the elevated stations is proceeding at a fast pace.
Mr. Jain said, “We feel inspired after looking at this project. We may want to reproduce such work in the upcoming Metro Rail projects in Bhopal and Indore.”
A feasibility study for executing Metro Rail work in the two cities had already begun, he said.
“Our Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wants the state to develop in all respects. In this visit, we learnt about various aspects on sectors including health, education and agriculture from Tamil Nadu,” Mr Jain said.
The members briefly interacted with workers on the site and enquired about the techniques employed and the deadline they are set to meet.
Rajendra Mishra, one of the advisors, said there was a growing need to focus on Metro Rail work in the rapidly developing urban cities. “We have Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in two cities there already. Now, we have to also focus on the construction of Metro Rail work,” Mr. Mishra added.
