The body of 54-year-old Akkineni Ravi Sankar Prasad, grandson of noted film personality L.V. Prasad and managing director of Hotel Anand Regency, was found at Gogullanka hamlet in I. Polavaram mandal on Saturday.
Though the police suspect that Prasad could have committed suicide, his family members believe that a road accident could have caused his death.
Prasad went missing in the early hours of Monday and the closed circuit camera installed at the tollgate of the Yanam-Edurlanka bridge recorded him passing through at 3.33 a.m.
Following a complaint from Prasad’s family members, the Yanam police on Monday registered a ‘missing’ case and commenced investigation. Teams from East Godavari district police too joined the investigation.
On Saturday morning, the police got a tip-off that the decomposed body of a 50-year-old man had reached the shore at the Gogullanka hamlet. Police teams then brought the body to Yanam, and after consultations with the family members, announced that the body was that of Prasad.
Prasad’s body, which was later taken to the Government Hospital at Mummidivaram for post-mortem, is expected to reach the city around 8 a.m. on Saturday and the last rites will be done at his estate in Mannapakkam.
Prasad had been associated with the film industry for the last two decades and has a major share in Anand Cine Services and film distribution company. He ventured into film production with the Chiranjeevi-starrer ‘Shankar Dada MBBS’ under Gemini Film Circuit banner and produced films in Telugu and Tamil. Meanwhile, the Film Employees’ Federation of South India has said in a press release that all shooting will be suspended on Monday as a mark of respect.
Prasad is survived by his wife Sai Siva Jyothi and their two daughters, Lakshmi and Anjali.
