Local body polls: Symbols notified

The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC) has notified a list of 10 recognised political parties and the symbols reserved for them for the local body polls expected to be held next month. The parties that are entitled to their own symbols are the AIADMK, DMK, Congress, DMDK, CPI, CPI-M, BJP, BSP, Trinamool Congress and Nationalist Congress Party.

Prominent parties that do not have their own symbol include the PMK, MDMK, VCK and TMC.

A total of 199 registered and unrecognised political parties have been notified, which can choose from a list of symbols for the elections. The notification has been published in the State government gazette dated September 19.
