Leaders of political parties in Tamil Nadu on Sunday congratulated the newly-elected general secretary of the CPI (M) Sitaram Yechury.

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, in his message on Facebook, expressed the hope that Mr. Yechury would work towards strengthening democracy in India by creating a strong and responsible Opposition.

Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirmavalavan said at a time when the Left movement in the country was going through a crisis, Mr. Yechury should play a pivotal role in strengthening the unity among the Communist parties and bringing together secular forces. He also urged Mr. Yechury to give shape to the resolution adopted at the CPI(M)’s all India Congress that reservation should be given to SC/STs in private sector. Tamil Maanila Congress leader G.K. Vasan said Mr. Yechury had toured across the country to highlight the problems of the downtrodden and as a Parliamentarian he reflected the aspirations of the people.
