More than five lakh candidates appeared for the written exam of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) for selection of constables, jail wardens and firemen on Sunday. The candidates took part in the exam conducted in 410 centres, including 56 in the city.
Chennai Police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan along with Traffic Police Commissioner Abhaykumar Singh visited the exam centre at Ethiraj College.
A senior official of the city police said this year the TNUSRB exam is being conducted for selecting 13,137 grade-II police constables, 1,015 grade-II jail wardens and 1,512 firemen.
A total of 6.32 lakh persons from all over the State had applied for the exam, with Chennai topping the number of applicants with 45,523 candidates. Of the 6.32 lakh applicants, 5.80 lakh candidates were allowed for written examination. The results would be announced after two months, he added.
This is also the first time the board is allowing transgenders to take examination under third gender category.
