Murugan alias Neeravi Murugan, apprehended by the city police in connection with the knifepoint robbery of a teacher in Thoraipakkam last December, has at least 87 cases registered against him, including three murders.
According to the police, the 32-year-old suspect, a native of Tuticorin, is involved in several robbery cases, and the murder of a DMK functionary in Tuticorin in 2011.
A special city police team had launched a manhunt for Murugan after he, along with an associate, robbed Velam Senthil (39) of Thoraipakkam at knifepoint on December 19.
After more than a month, Murugan was apprehended in Tirunelveli on Monday. He was sent to Puzhal on Wednesday.
