“Khadi, a legacy of Mahatma Gandhi is a symbol of self-respect and self-reliance. It remains an ideology and a symbol of our commitment to the nation,” said K. Rosaiah, Governor of Tamil Nadu. “Khadi products should be part and parcel of every household,” he added.
Speaking at the 143rd Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations at the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan here on Sunday, Mr. Rosaiah said the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan should provide a rebate throughout the year for the benefit of the common man.
At the event, Mr. Rosaiah inaugurated the Khadi special rebate sales, distributed prizes to students who participated in the ‘Gandhian Youth Festival' and distributed clothes to children from the Anbu Karangalin Anbu Illam. A. Srinivasan, founder and chairman, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Group made the first purchase.
S. Mohan, former Supreme Court judge, said that support and help rendered to promote Khadi products will be the greatest service made to the father of the nation. R. Prabakar Rao, State director, KVIC said introduction of solar spinning wheels will help enhance productivity and strengthen infrastructure.
Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, secretary, B.Thulasiraman and chairman, P.Alagirisamy, participated. The Gandhi Jayanthi and Deepavali special rebate rates are 30 per cent for Khadi products made in Tamil Nadu and 15 per cent for Khadi products from other states and will apply till October 25. A special sale is also being held at the Khadi and Village Industries Board outlet at Kuralagam.
