Volunteers of Care and Welfare Organisation, which has been promoting road safety since 2014, will be turning junctions into a stage. On the last Sunday of every month, around 200 volunteers fan out to a few junctions across the city to spread awareness about road safety. Shortly, they will add skits to their strategy.

The junctions covered so far: T. Nagar bus stand, SRP Tools, Tidel Park, Retteri and Central railway station.

While going about promoting road safety, these volunteers also report anything that is amiss with the civic system, to the authorities concerned.

"Manholes of sewage drains were found protruding on some of the key roads in Avadi, Velachery and Chromepet. We took up the issue with the authorities concerned and the ensured these problems were fixed. Similarly, we ensured pedestrian-crossings were laid at sections of Teynampet, Nandanam and Mount Road,” says Sindhuram, a volunteer.

These volunteers help the Chennai Traffic Police streamlining traffic during festive seasons.

The other activities by the organisation include removal of posters at public places, maintenance of a directory of blood donors, rehabilitation of beggars, creating awareness about vector-borne diseases among people living in slums, distribution of food to the needy, organising field trips for persons with autism, rendering educational support to underprivileged children and reviving organic means of farming.
