After the ‘Jeyam' Ravi-starrer ‘Thillalangadi,' his brother, director ‘Jeyam' Raja, has decided to look beyond remakes. His first straight film in Tamil will be ‘Velayudham,' with Vijay and Genelia D' Souza in the lead.
“This is the first time for me to direct a Tamil movie without casting my brother. But the story demanded a hero like Vijay,” says the director.
Based on a story of director Thirupadsisamy, the film is about a superhero and his feats. “I wanted a hero with a larger-than-life image and Vijay was the perfect choice.” The director promises that the film would be a perfect package of emotions like any commercial film.
“I worked on the script for nearly 10 months and am happy with the way it has turned out. Like my previous films, this will also be a complete entertainer and crowd-pleaser,” says Raja.
Sources say the film would have many massive fight sequences and a popular Hindi hero would don a sinister role. Genelia D'Souza will play the role of a journalist, while Hansika Motwani, another heroine in the film, will be the village belle. Santhanam and Sathyan will be cast for the humour element.
The story, with 60 per cent to be shot in cities such as Chennai and Hyderabad, will also feature a good number of “village scenes.” The first slot of the film shoot will begin July 15. Music is scored by Vijay Antony and Priyan will handle the camera.
