Traffic was sluggish in a few parts of the city as Chief Minister Jayalalithaa went on a campaign in sixteen constituencies covering a total of 42 areas on Wednesday evening.
According to commuters, traffic was moving at a snail’s pace on Anna Salai till Nandanam junction and connecting roads.

“Buses were not allowed on CIT Nagar First Main Road towards the T. Nagar Bus Depot when the Chief Minister’s campaign was going on. A few of us got down at Anna Salai and walked towards their destination,” a passenger said. Meanwhile, Koyambedu traffic was held up for a few minutes when the Chief Minister was campaigning.
“Traffic was allowed on one side and we did not have to wait for a long time. Vehicles started moving in around ten minutes,” said H. Deepak, a motorist and resident of Arumbakkam.
In Mylapore, vehicles were stopped for a few minutes when the Chief Minister’s convoy passed through the locality. “Unlike the previous years when traffic used to be stopped hours ahead of a major campaign, this time the traffic was stopped only when the convoys were passing through and there was not much of a difficulty,” said H. Janane.
Police officers said that they had tried to keep traffic diversion and hold-ups to the bare minimum. “However, stretches which are usually clogged such as Anna salai and Mylapore experienced slow-moving traffic since it was peak hours,” a traffic police said.
