: The government on Sunday appointed M. Veera Shanmuga Moni, IAS, as the Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
He replaces P. Dhanapal whose 30-year-long innings at the department has come to an end. He joined the HR&CE as Assistant Commissioner in 1985 and held various positions before becoming Commissioner in September 2012.
On retirement from service in May 2013, Mr Dhanapal was re-employed for three years or “until further orders.” His re-employment was challenged in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court by a group of persons, two of whom were former employees of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. But, the petition was dismissed by the High Court.
