Houses burgled, cash, jewellery stolen

In two separate incidents of burglary in the city that took place in the early hours of Tuesday, burglars decamped with cash, gold jewellery and electronic items.

The police said the residence of Shankar, a flower seller, on Venkakatachalam Street in Triplicane was burgled when he and his family members were out of town on Saturday evening.

They returned on Tuesday morning to find the lock on the main door broken and the house ransacked. Gold jewellery weighing 15 sovereigns and Rs. 10,000 were missing.

In another case reported, burglars targeted a house in Anderson Road, Nungambakkam, when its residents Vincent and wife Monice were asleep. The culprits gained access through the back door and stole two mobile phones, an iPad and Rs. 6,000, sources said.
