On Saturday evening, at K.K. Nagar police station, a 33-year-old man sought to reclaim his infant son reportedly given in adoption to an acquaintance.
There is suspicion the man may have sold his son for a sum of Rs. 60,000. He was found to have collected Rs. 25,000 as advance.
According to the K.K. Nagar police, three-month-old boy, Kaushik, is one of twins born to MTC staffer Sridhar of Thomas Road, Teynampet, and his wife Meena. The other boy, Gautham, suffers from a heart ailment. The couple also have a four-year-old son.
On Saturday, Sridhar approached the K.K. Nagar police with a complaint against Mohammed Mohideen, a businessman from K.K. Nagar. He said the latter was not handing over custody of his son Kaushik given in ‘adoption on goodwill grounds’.
“Probe revealed Sridhar had collected Rs. 25,000 as advance before handing over the child to the businessman on April 18. Mohideen was to give another Rs. 35,000 later but defaulted on the payment,” said a senior police officer.
On Saturday evening, the K.K Nagar police questioned both Mohideen and Sridhar. Further investigation is underway.
