January 27, 2014 08:25 am | Updated May 13, 2016 12:38 pm IST - CHENNAI:

A heart failure clinic that aims to improve lifestyle of patients was jointly launched by Dr. K.M. Cherian’s Frontier Lifeline Hospital and Indian Medical Association in the city on Saturday.

Health minister C. Vijayabhaskar launched the clinic and also released a booklet on the facility. He also inaugurated a continuing medical education programme on heart failure.

Heart failure, K.M. Cherian, chairman of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, said is different from heart attack and cardiac arrest. It is a serious medical condition that develops slowly as the heart muscles weaken. Symptoms include shortness of breath, particularly while lying down, and swelling of feet, ankles and legs.

The clinic would serve as a centre of excellence for the clinical management of heart failure, he said.
