The study on the proposed grade separator at St. Marys Road-TTK Road-Chamiers Road junctions has been dropped, according to the report submitted by the consultant to Chennai Corporation.
A study on the proposals for a number of grade separators had been initiated following an announcement by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy last year.
According to the traffic assessment report for the St. Marys Road-TTK Road-Chamiers Road junction, the traffic is less than the prescribed limits as per Indian Roads Congress. The turning movement count survey analysis shows that the total volume of traffic during rush hour is 4,824 pcu (passenger car unit). Grade separators will be required only for junctions that have a traffic volume of 10,000 pcu.
The junction will require a grade separator only in 2024 when the traffic volume is projected to be 10,065 pcu, said the report
The proposal for another grade separator in Madhya Kailash is also facing a hurdle. The traffic volume during rush hour is 10,502 pcu, and thus, the junction requires a grade separator, but the design will be finalised only after the alignment of the proposed 55-km-long elevated corridor on Rajiv Gandhi Salai is finalised.
