GKM College students protest extra hours

February 04, 2014 02:12 pm | Updated May 18, 2016 05:53 am IST - CHENNAI:

Students of GKM College of Engineering and Technology, Sadanandapuram, on Monday, staged a protest in the college premises asking the management to not conduct classes after college hours.

According to the students, the college had earlier introduced extra classes after college hours for students with poor academic records. The classes were held after 4.30 p.m. but the results had not been impressive, students said.

As the management had proposed to restart the classes, students decided to protest the same. The management should instead provide notes and give tips on handling stress during university examinations, said the protesting students.

“As many of us come from far-flung places, conducting classes after college hours will tire us out,” said a student.

A college spokesperson said the intention behind the extra classes was to improve the academic record of the students. After the protest, the management held talks with the students and a decision would be taken, on making such classes optional, he said.
