A life convict who escaped from the campus of the Central Prison, Puzhal, was nabbed by the police from his residence at Valasaravakkam.

Chinnaiyan alias Jayaraj, 38, was arrested in 2008 on charges of murder. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

On Thursday morning, he, along with six other prisoners, was taken by a constable for work in the garden near the prison wall. After the work was completed, the prison staff noticed he was missing.

The police, along with prison staff, waited near his house to nab him. They apprehended him around midnight when he entered the house after getting drunk with his friends.
