Four men were killed in separate accidents in a span of 3 hours after being hit by trains while crossing the tracks in the city’s southern suburbs on Thursday morning. In the first accident that took place around 5.30 a.m., V.N. Kumar (52) of Kattupakkam was crossing the tracks near the northern end of the platform near Tambaram station, when he was run over by the Chennai Egmore-bound Mannai Express.
Sanjay Gandhi (24), a software professional hailing from Erode, was crossing the tracks near Tambaram railway station when he was hit by an electric multiple unit fast service to Chennai Beach from Chengalpattu around 8.30 a.m. Around the same time, A. Gilbert (21), a third-year student of an engineering college in Gowrivakkam, was crossing the railway track between Vandalur and Guduvanchery stations when he was hit by an EMU. A native of Valliyur in Tirunelveli district, Gilbert, living near East Tambaram, had come to his brother’s house in Vandalur on Wednesday.
Around 9 a.m., K. Vignesh (21), died on the spot after he was hit by an express train while crossing the tracks between Singaperumal Koil and Paranur railway stations. A native of Kallakurichi in Villupuram District, Vignesh had come to Paranur as a trainee at a factory.
