A community hall in T. Nagar, which was inaugurated in 1966 by DMK founder C.N. Annadurai at a function in which M.G. Ramachandran participated, is to be reconstructed by the Chennai Corporation.

Laying the foundation stone on Friday for the reconstruction work, Mayor M. Subramanian said “The building will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs.1 crore utilising funds from the MLA Local Area Development Scheme of Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The community hall on Dr. Giriappa Road will be of help to the poor residents in the neighbourhood.”

The inscription on a stone tablet on the building reads: “Inaugurated in the presence of Puratchi Thalaivar M.G.R by Member of Parliament C.N.Annadurai.” The Corporation will preserve the inscriptions and fix them on the reconstructed building, said Mr. Subramanian. The construction work of the 6,100 sq ft community hall will be completed in six months, he added.

The Corporation has carried out 1,202 development works at a cost of Rs.110 crore in the locality in the past four-and-a-half years, he added.
